Wharfe at Cromwheel, Ilkley
The bathing water site, known as ‘Wharfe at Cromwheel, Ilkley', is located on the River Wharfe at Ilkley, close to Ilkley town centre. It can be accessed from the Riverside Walk footpath alongside the river. When the river level is low, a gently sloping shingle beach is exposed. The Cromwheel site is located upstream of the suspension bridge and all discharges from Ilkley Sewage Treatment Works. It is a short climb up from town and provides visitors with the opportunity to enjoy a cup of tea and take a dip in the water. The beach is a hidden gem that many people may not be aware of, even if they have been to Ilkley before. It is definitely worth checking out if you are ever in the area. The views from White Wells are stunning and the cottage on the beach provides a peaceful spot to relax and take in the scenery. Additionally, there are public washrooms available nearby. The only downside is the lack of a snack shop on the way to the moor.
