Scarborough South Beach or South Bay Beach is a popular resort beach situated on the Yorkshire coast. It is 0.5 kilometres in length with a gentle slope. At low tide a large area of the beach is exposed and the water's edge can be some distance away. To the north of the bathing water is Scarborough harbour. The beach is backed by a large number of tourist establishments, including restaurants, amusements and shops and higher up the steep cliff the town of Scarborough. The beach is easily accessible via the hop on hop off bus and is only a 5-minute distance from North Bay. There are also many eateries near the beach, providing something for everyone to enjoy. However, caution is advised when the tide comes in and the wind picks up, as the beach can be small and stormy. The beach is well-served by the adjacent RNLI station and is within close proximity to shops in case of emergencies. The public facilities on the promenade could be improved.
