The bathing water is a resort beach on the north Kent coast near to Margate. It is a gently shelving sandy beach with a promenade above the entire length and a tidal pool to the west. There are extensive underwater rock formations just offshore to the east and west which are exposed at low water. St. Mildred's Bay Beach is located on the Viking Trail and easy to reach by train from London. It is quieter than nearby Margate and Herne Bay. The beach has a nice promenade, although it can be prone to moss accumulation and is a bit rocky in places. Lifeguards are present and there is a large enclosed paddling pool for children. There are restaurants and cafes along the promenade for refreshments and public toilets nearby. The beach offers rock pools to explore during low tide. The beach can be accessed by car, with a car park available for a fee. The beach is known for its clean sandy shores and there is a nice café for snacks and meals.
