Clacton is a busy seaside resort. Clacton Martello tower beach is wide, sandy and gently shelving, and backed by the promenade. Martello Tower E is a historic landmark located at the bottom end of Clacton, along the seafront. It was originally designed to keep Napoleon's army out and was later used as a watch post during World War II. The tower now serves as a World War II museum in honor of a P51 pilot who was killed at the end of the war. While there is not much to see in terms of the tower itself, there is a great view from the top and an info board providing information about its history.
